Survivor: A Short [Hot Mess of a] Film

   
       Before I could even get my makeup on, the photo shoot was over. What would you do if you traveled for hours to get to a photo shoot, and then the camera breaks, and all you have left is a flip recorder the age of a spoiled toddler? Me? I make shit happen. Impressive is what I do best. Fate is a b*tch, but it's her that makes me shine.  We ended up making a short, impromptu film in which I played a gangsta wife --another thing I do best :)

@ISEENTHOS Clothing Line

         Had the pleasure of walking for Cory of ISEENTHOS again last night. The first time I walked for him was in the Fashtastic Fashion Show back in October. (Click here for photos!) Needless to say, if you put me in anything pick, you've made my day --maybe even my week. I was impressed with Corey because, at this second show, I didn't see anything I had seen before. Any designer who is constantly creating should be applauded vigorously. Each design is made by hand, giving each piece an identity of its own. The most fabulous thing about this is that it also gives the individual personality of their own. Even if you're not a brilliant pink, cheetah print wearing weirdo, ISEENTHOS will make you stand out from the crowd exactly as you would like. 

Photoshoot: #JTGazeModels - "Bish, I can do that, too."

I had a blast. 

 Had another photoshoot this weekend and, honestly... it's the most comfortable I've ever been in front of a camera my entire life. I love shooting with Jay of JT Gaze Models because he cares about getting a good shot. I love the clean editorial feel he goes for. He also has an online magazine called, Gaze. CLICK HERE to check it out! While Jay certainly gets his shit done, he knows best that it's not easy in New York City. Apparently, it's illegal to just shoot photos anywhere without permits and all that. Then, without paying for trailers/hotels, etc... you've got to figure out where to get hair and make up done. No matter the weather. And no matter who shows us --or doesn't.

The other best part about this shoot was my love, Roielle. I love how strong he is, as a person, because it helps me work. He's picky and judgemental. Some might take that offensive, but I meant that in the perfect way: it forces me to step my game up. Roi & I had a brilliant conversation about artists and performing in which he told me that he "makes people" like me. (He works with Sony on talent management and development.) I then pointed to a random white chick and told him to make her into me, then. He said he could. I say the challenge is on the table & I'm sure Roi didn't expect it to be. & I also say this is why we get along. The people who force you to be a better, more complete and resilient you, are the people you need to keep around. I'm a rookie at all this. I know I've got plenty to learn, but one thing I know is that there is only one Marjorie Marina Thousand. "ELLA" might be anybody... but now I know what I need to show the public. Thank you, Roi, baby <3

And so, to the general public: You've always got to be yourself, which is where my mind was in the shoot below. Not matter what goes on around you, you've got to be headstrong. People will doubt you, push you and underestimate you. This doesn't make them bad people, it simply provides you the opportunity to shine: If you so chose. I truly believe that when you're a star, you shine even when you don't want to. You shine until you die. You shine in the daylight whether they can see you or not, because somewhere on the other side, someone can still see how bright you are.

Keep your head up.

Devil: The Film (Day 3)

 You may or may not know... but I'm doing this film thing with JTGaze Models and Casting. It's actually... a lot of fun. While shooting with Jay, I get to throw myself into fields I've never really been comfortable with and watch myself excel.

 Sometimes, you just need to see what you can do. Granted, I'm not trained in either modeling nor acting --and that might have pushed the "hate now" button some people have tucked behind their ears, but participating gives me life. Last Saturday, I woke up late, thinking we weren't going to shoot. I started my day by dragging my feet around trying to think of something productive to do. Part of the reason I like to do stuff like this is that it just fills up my calendar. Not to mention, I get to have my hair & make-up done & pretend to be a star. It's actually quite fabulous. 

I also get free training. Not that my shoots are supposed to be training sessions, but the best way to learn (in my opinion) is to try. While on shoot, I get to meet models, photographers, make up artists, hair stylists and plenty of folk whose handles have dabbled in a variety of arts. On Saturday's session, I worked with a fellow model who used to do model training. He was totally sweet, but I totally used him as my personal modeling coach. 

The only way to excel is to desire it. I asked for tips and we even got down to my lazy eye and how I can work that in photos. Not to mention I'm 5'2, so I've got to employ "techniques" to make myself look longer in pictures. You know what? Modeling isn't the toughest or most strenuous or mentally demanding field, but it is emotionally taxing. Before I shot, Jay had just finished up with two gorgeous, tall-as-f*ck models. Still, I sat my little self peacefully and continued to get my make-up done.  I started thinking about how different I looked from them, but then I realized that that is what makes me marvelous. I am myself. Instead of seeing our differences as flaws, we should work on understanding that those are the characteristics that set us apart; they make us special.
