I showed up to the Swagger On the Mic artist showcase
"curling this hair and crossing this bridge" late, but I'm hoping to make the 10.22 show in time ;) Last time, I was just in time for the freestyle cypher which, appropriately, starts of the night. It took a round or two before we
got something that wasn't written from a dude named Pharaoh - luckily for him because his music didn't play when he was supposed to go up. Fun Fact: Written freestyles will always be my pet peeve, forreal. I suppose this isn't a stab at anyone unless someone feels it. I'm not yet amazing at the freestlying thing, so it's always impressive to see anyone who is. The
most brilliant part about showcases like this is that the public gets to
see what the underground is cooking, but as an artist you also get to
meet talent striving for the same as you. The most difficult part of
participating in and attending showcases is that everyone
is an artist. You are undoubtedly in the midst of your competition, and
your time on the mic is the only #fact up for discussion. The most beneficial things I gained from attending this open mic were the feedback... and the opportunity to analyze the field and gauge which steps I need to take next.

Bobby Stone and Friends Concert (Brooklyn, NY)
On May 18th, Bobby Stone held his 3rd indie/unsigned artist concert in Brooklyn, NY - and it was dope. The New Old School is the title of Stone's latest music project - the concert being the official release party -as well as the guide for his craft and crowd: An old school feel, with The New School appeal. Not only was I excited to participate, but I am both humbled and honored to have been chosen by a crowd with such a specific (and dope) "genre" of sorts.

Super Sweetback Treatment by @Miss_Jessies
Huge S/O to Miss Jessie's because I actually use the stuff. My hair is natural (no chemical straightening) and the most recent thing I've done has been coloring it. I'm a fan of dying my hair, so may hair tends to be on the dry side. Split ends are the death of me, so I've always got to put extra oils and stuff in it. My preference is to have a treatment I can leave on through the end of my shower, or walk around the house looking ravishing and ratchet in my shower cap. Miss Jessie's gives me everything my heart and hair desire. It's like... dessert for my tresses.

My
favorite thing about H himself
is that he's just a normal, very well-dressed n*gga (no offense) who happens to
be glorious on tracks. "I expected him to be taller," a friend
said. H
stands 6'3, 150lbs, which means he towers over my 5'2, but maybe his rhymes are
just that colossal. Born to Rosalyn and Michael Williams on February 26th, in
the year of royalty (1988, is where it's at), 25-year-old, Michael
"Hollywood" Williams is an East New York, Brooklyn native;
a G from The Field across the boulevard. We can call him "H" and he's been charged with one mission: Bring real rap back.

Honestly folks, this is a perfect way to encourage your children to participate in fun, safe activities with other kids.
SEEDS is a beautiful organization which wants nothing more than to
provide children with positive activities. Catering to children and families in under-served communities,
SEEDS is committed to providing activities to care for the health, welfare and safe upbringing of our future leaders. The organization is also
looking for volunteers (which I am so excited to be) and you can
email soccer@seedsinthemiddle.org if you'd like to volunteer as well.
I'm only available weekends, & they'll enlist your skills anytime you'd like to offer them. They have plenty going on & would love to have you. If you're trying to find a program to give
yourself to, if you love sports & love kids, this would be a phenomenal experience for you. You can help out with the actual
game of soccer, or you can help with social media or other
administrative tasks. Anything you bring the the table will certainly be
appreciated and valued!
Feel free to CLICK HERE to check them out on Facebook!

Sea Thai Restaurant - Brooklyn, NY
Had a great time at Sea Restaurant. Was my first time there so figured I'd give you all a lil run down. Chinese food is my absolute favorite. Mr. Chow's is my world but I can always go for some good Thai.
It felt like a loft party. We walked in to techno, low lights and a crowd we had to fight through at the bar. Granted it was a Friday night, so there were no complaints on my end. There is a bar to your left as soon as you walk in so that you can grab a drink. I told them to make me something pretty with Hennessy and it was brilliant both times. They had told us an hour wait, but it was about 15 minutes. It was enough time to order drinks, take a trip to the restroom and think about how much you like the place. The waiting area features seating like swings, which I loved. It was just so... dope. The center of the restaurant has this mini lake with a Buddha which is how you get a loft party to remain calm. Also reminded me of the Buddha exhibit at the MoMA, now I'm dying to go back. Still, no matter the drinks or the venue, you can't stop thinking about the food because the spices are so aromatic.
BK Volunteering - @MillionTreesNYC
So... we didn't plant trees, we just cleaned up and put down some new mulch. Saturday was terrible weather, but I made it out with Million Trees NYC anyhow. It was nothing but misty rain --enough to be annoying, but when I recieved an email thanking me for "braving the weather" it sounded like a challenge. I wanted so badly to roll over in bed but, instead, I threw on my trench coat and did what I said I would do. I'd signed up for this volunteer activity for a couple reasons:
- I needed to do something that wasn't totally self-absorbed.
This was my first solo volunteer thing. This was an ultimate testament of working outside of myself & by myself. Everyone there seemed to have showed up with someone. The truth is, every time I sign up for something, I write down East Brook Family because, not only does it sound good, but they've shown me tremendous love in a hood that's not my own. So... cleaning up some trees was sort of my way of giving back. Still, I knew I wasn't getting the guys up at 10am on a Saturday to shovel mulch lol. I let them live. The most interesting part of volunteering/philanthropy is that everyone has their own preference about what they'd like to do, what they consider valuable and what they find most enjoyable. The way to get people to participate is to do different things. Whoever joins, joins. Whoever doesn't can wait until something they like comes up. I've got soccer with the kids and arts with the kids lined up (I secretly love kids) but this particular Saturday was going to be spent with Mrs. Earth.
$19Million Penthouse in Brooklyn
On a regular night of running the town, EastBrookFamilia made our way back to Brooklyn via the Manhattan Bridge. I hate to make people look off when they're driving or passed out in the back seat, but... I had to tell everyone to look --I fell in love. Since I'm new to the city, I haven't seen all the glorious things it has to offer, but when something good exists, you can bet your last dollar I'll point it out. & You can also garuntee it's the "most expensive". Smh. Good taste is a curse.
On 1 Main Street, in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn, sits the ClockTower Building - my future crib :) The 20-floor building was built in 1914 by Robert Gair, functioning as an extension of his cardboard box factory and studio space. The building was originally called, "Building No. 7". in 1998, the building was converted into 124 condominiums featuring a 3-floor penthouse at the very top. The renovation was overseen by David Walentas of the Two Trees management group.
I've never seen the building up close but, as you drive across the Manhattan Bridge, it surely is a sight to see. Originally priced at $25M, the price has now come down to $19M (DISCOUNT!). Supposedly, Mr. Shawn Jay-Z Carter looked at the building (obviously) but decided not to buy. The realtor, David Walentas, described the space as "a showplace, a party place, a statement." I've never really needed glasses, so with the lights on, you can see straight through to the staircase that adorns the center of the place. To top it off, there's an elevator -___- I mean... this is how you live. I love houses. I'm the girl who can be satisfied on a date of take-out food if we can ride around and look at mansions. (I'll marry you, faithfully, if you buy me one!) I take the scenic route everywhere. Homes interest me because they are certainly a reflection of your character. I'm also a big entertainer. I love the hostess stuff, I just wish I had more space and... a chef and a maid.
Someday, I'll have myself a crib just as impressive as this one --if not this exact one. You've got to give yourself goals! Some might consider this a waste of money but... take a look at the photos. This is what living in New York is supposed to look like. Some things, we're just supposed to do. *shrugs*

ELLA Performs, "Mic On Fire" - 1.12.13
I performed this passed Saturday at the Paul Robeson Theatre. Getting comfortable on stage, slowly but surely. As usual, forgive the curses and pardon my mistakes. I tried to keep it going tho. & Apparently, the best part of my set is my intro... I like performing in person. I like when people like me so... to really feel me, you might have to catch a show. Forreal, tho.
Hope you enjoy the videos below as much as my #1 Fan, Miss Natalie Rose. Check out my love below. If you love me, you'll clap just like that when I'm not in the room. <3
If ever you want to catch me, please visit my calendar for dope sh*t jwwwdcalendar.tumblr.com
Pray for me, y'all. I'm trying. Progress is a long process.
The first is my rendition of some dude G Money Dogg's joint call "Get Dis Moooonay" lol. I don't know him or where I found the song originally, but he sings my hook.
Messed up a bit on this one but... I like how it ended.
"This a God-given verse, not mine."
The joint below (the singing part & instrumental) is Shania Twain's "No Particular Way."
I just really like her & the song makes me happy... so I wanted to sing it. That's really the whole explanation. *shrugs* lol
S/O to my family. They did all the recording, picturing taking & sh*t talking.
